The Zoning Board of Adjustment did not have enough members show up at its meeting Wednesday night to hear a developer’s plans to rebuild an apartment complex that burned down in 2000 and again last year. The second blaze displaced more than 1,000 people and left roughly 500 without homes.

Plans to rebuild Avalon at Edgewater building nearly identical to original, with added fire safety upgrades

The developer is proposing to rebuild the structure with updated amenities but the same number of units and floors, on roughly the same footprint as the old building. But it will be better protected from fire, company officials say, because of the firewalls and sprinkler systems that will be installed even in unoccupied spaces like attics and wall cavities.
