Dear Sandy,
I just wanted to add one more thing I caught after reading my past reply to your original post (yes, besides the numerous typos!! I guess I was in a bit of a hurry, sorry if a few sentences didn't quite make it to legibility!)
You should try not to hold your bird at an eye level higher than your own, which includes putting them on your shoulder. It gives them an ego problem, in human terms. Now if you have had your bird for many years, bonded closely, and trust eachother fully and are willing to lose an eye anyways, go right on ahead. But until you have utmost confidence in your feathered friends temperments, I would recommend against it! While most long term parrot owners will disagree, until you fit that profile, just trust me! I have the scars to prove it! It's like assuming because you've known your husband for 25 years he can't one day wake up on the wrong side of the bed for no reason at all! It happens, and sometimes, parrots bite their beloved...
Take care,
Jess
