Hello folks. It sounds to me like there were more than one St. Joseph Home. I was at the one in Peekskill NY for a year or so, from 1947 to sometime in 1948. At the time I was 9-10 years old. I never heard it referred to as an orphanage, just a home. My dad was an alcoholic and my mom had had a nervous breakdown, and was in a State hospital someplace near the City. After living with my dad's sister for a while, I was told I was going to "summer camp". Well, camp turned out to be a little more than a year. I remember that the place was on a hill, and we would look down at the freight and passenger trains passing. We had a nice swimming pool. The food sucked, but the nuns did teach us good manners. For years after that, I could not walk indoors anytime without removing my hat. I am living in Detroit now. In October 2000 I was in NY and visited Peekskill looking for St. Joseph's...no luck. does anyone know what happened to St. Joseph's?
