cutting down of trees near Abbot Blvd.

I was wondering if anyone is aware of the massive tree cutting that took place near Abbot Blvd. (near the old Sharron Cinema) sometime last week? The town never explained the reason for taking down about 15 healthy trees. Any info would be much appreciated.
