Ralph: good post. The truth is you hit the nail on the head.. as far as fostering a diverse community, that will only happen if whites are a majority. Because if they are not, would I, as a white potential homebuyer, buy in Fort Lee and be a minority in the town? Have my child be a minority in his/her school? For the $500,000 plus I have to spend I'll buy somewhere else. And to your point, I can always eat out in Fort Lee and then go home to Tenafly, Riveredge, Oradell, or any of a number of other towns with a white majority.
So more and more home sales go to Asians and it feeds on itself and diversity is lost because the town becomes almost all Asian. I would love to know the percentage of home sales that went to Asians last year vs. non-Asians.It seems to me from my own neighborhood that almost every home sale goes to Asians. And the more Asian the town becomes, the less necessary it is for Asian businesses to seek out non-Asian customers, the more the schools become Asian, etc.
You're right also in that change is inevitable. For those who have been here many years and have roots here, it's a difficult transition when you see so much of an Asian influx and whites not keeping pace.
