9x: Do I understand correctly that because you did not name any diverse communities that do not have a white majority that you are not aware of any either?
The logical conclusion that can be drawn then is that diversity without a white majority is more of a hope than a reality, at least at this point?
It seems to me that the crux of this matter is that when people in any culture have the financial means to make choices about their housing, they will choose not to be in the minority. If they are a minority in a particular culture (like Asians in this case), they will gravitate towards towns where there is at least a core group of their culture. Chinese will choose to live with other Chinese, Koreans with other Koreans. It works the same way with other groups also: for example Jews choose to live with other Jews, blacks with other blacks. So a member of a particular racial/cultural group, when looking to buy a house, will look for communities where they are the majority first, and secondly, if that is not feasible, at least where there are enough of their culture to make them feel comfortable. They will avoid those in which they are not. When a "tipping point" is reached in which more of a minority culture are moving in than the majority culture, the town will become less attractive to the majority culture and they will look elsewhere. Then, over time, the natural conclusion is that the once minority culture becomes the majority in a town, the town is no longer attractive to the overall majority culture, because they have other options -- towns in which they would still be in the majority.
That's what has happened to Fort Lee. The Asian influx, over the last twenty years, has grown significantly. It started with a small group of expatriate Japanese businessmen who would move back to Japan after a couple of years.Since Fort Lee was still predominantly white, this allowed for a diversity that Fort Lee was known for. Over the last 10-15 years, the influx has now been of permanent Asian residents (mostly Koreans, with some Chinese and Japanese) as well as much smaller groups of Russians, Israelis, various Hispanics, etc. The tipping point I referred to has been reached, and "majority culture" whites no longer see Fort Lee as a best option for buying houses and raising their families.
So the way I see it, Fort Lee will become a majority Asian community, essentially without a significant white population. This is still a number of years away, but the trend is clear.
This is not a "problem" per se, but it does create the disconnect that several of these posts seem to reflect.
