Fort Lee's Future

I always enjoy a good debate and it is true sometimes I lead with my heart but I never cover my true feelings and the posts I place here are my true feelings. As regards so-called "white flight", again it isn't white flight it is "show me the money" flight where old timers sell their property for a good profit and choose to leave. That is within their rights and I do not criticize them at all. But to say there is "white flight" for any reason other than profit handed to property owner by developer is untrue and absurd. Again, I speak from experience when I say many people of diverse ethnic backgrounds came out to save a piece of history called "The Barrymore House" in Coytesville and the only opposition at the public Mayor & Council meeting came from a few "old timers" who said AND I QUOTE "There is a place for passion and history but not in a residential neighborhood". They sold their property to a developer who subdivided it and now on the bones of the Barrymore House, a grand old 19th century Victorian, stands two square large brick duplexes. I would like to see the passion of the debate on this message board be translated into a fight for the preservation of the past and the potential of the future of this great community. I love Fort Lee and am sure all of you who post here feel the same way. I am not leaving Fort Lee and I hope you don't. We have a great future that will compliment our tremendous history. Just get involved, join the Historical Society, attend and support and volunteer at Borough events such as the June 5 Arts & Music Festival and the Farmers Market to revitalize Main Street, participate in Palisade Interstate Park hikes along the Hudson and atop the Palisades such as the recent "Riviera Hike." We can make a difference by working with newcomers and old-timers.
