According to my father,Nicholas J Kaufer, Jr.,born Edgewater, NJ 1918, Kaufer Lane was named after my great grandfather Henry Kaufer. Henry was a butcher store owner (I believe the store was located in Cliffside Park, or Edgewater). My grandfather Nicholas J Kaufer, Sr. also worked as a butcher with my great grandfather and later moved the business to the Bronx, NY which I remember visiting as a young child. I have pictures of the old store in NJ from the early 1900's with my grandfather standing out front. The family was apparently well known in the area thus the street being named for the Kaufer's.
