I will do my best to pass along what limited information I may have. I am the oldest surviving child of Nicholas J. Kaufer Jr. and Madeline Lorraine Wilkie. I was born in 1948. I have two siblings, an older brother Nicholas J. Kaufer III (deceased 1943-2001) and a younger sister Donna (born 1957) My father, Nicolas J. Kaufer Jr. was born in Edgewater in 1918 to Nicholas J. Kaufer Sr.and Eleanor White. My father had two older sisters named Regina and Thelma. Nicholas J. Kaufer Sr.(my grandfather) had two sisters, my great aunts, Lillian and Florence. My great-grandfather's name was Henry Kaufer, who was a twin, I don't know what his twin brothers name was or if their were any other siblings. The only other information I can pass along is that the family owned a butcher shop in either Edgewater or Cliffside Park, and lived in that area for many years. At some point my grandfather Nicolas senior moved the butcher shop to the Bronx, New York. Florence and Lillian lived in Hackensack. My Aunt Florence was married to Harry Nelson. Aunt Lilly was married to George Durfus. As for my father's sisters, My Aunt Regina lived in the Bronx near my grandparents and was married to Ralph Carter. They had two children, my cousins Ellen and Bruce. My aunt Thelma lived in Pennsylvania near Harrisburg and she had three children my cousins, Joan, Rita, and Jackie. To add a little confusion to this matter when I cleaned out my aunt's house in Hackensack after her passing, I came across pictures of another Kaufer named Michael. It appears he could have been another son of Henry but I'm not sure. Michael is wearing a firemans uniform and may have been on the Yonkers, NY fire department. I have pictures of the old butcher shop in Edgewater or Cliffside Park with my grandfather as a young man standing out front. In addition, when cleaning out my aunts attic I foumd an old bible in German with family births and deaths recorded but don't recognize any of the names. They may be from previous generations or even another branch of the Kaufer family.
