Hi John,
Yes, Brodersen was my last name when I was growing up in Coytesville. I was 9 years old in 1958. As I started to think about those childhood days, lots of memories came back to me. I hope you will all forgive my rambling. I hope some of what I say "rings a bell" and I hear from others we grew up with. Here goes:
Holy Trinity Pastor was Fr. Lawlor.
There was a book bindery on 8th Street between Washington and Myrtle Avenues. It either burned down or was torn down. I know there was a building on the corner of Washingto and 8th that did burn down. It was big news in our day. I remember Judy, Jimmy and Danny Cook and Jay, Brian and Mora Flynn. Several Japanese families lived in our neighborhood. Anyone out there want the names I remember? Then there was Effie and Sophie Cook. They were two sisters who lived several blocks apart. I believe Effie lived on 8th Street. She had dated, I believe, John Barrymore. Her house, it was said, did not have electricity or running water. She would walk to her sister's house off Washington Avenue where she got water from a well. I am 56 years old now. Please correct any memories I have noted here. I would love to hear from "the old folks back home".
Caroline
