THE 74th ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPENING OF THE
GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IS CELEBRATED IN AN EXHIBIT
AT THE FORT WASHINGTON BRANCH OF THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

Community Historian James Renner will exhibit photographs and other historical ephemera relating to the George Washington Bridge at the Fort Washington Branch of the New York Public Library during the month of October 2005. The exhibit will cover the start of the construction of the bridge with a pamphlet of the groundbreaking ceremony in September 1927. Photographs of the construction and dedication day ceremony in October 1931 to the present day will be included. As part of the exhibit photographs taken by Mr. Renner of a special exhibit regarding the Bridge at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History called "A Material World."

Mr. Renner was sworn in as Community District 12 Historian by Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields in May 1999 and reports to Manhattan Borough Historian Celedonia Jones. Mr. Renner is presently a member of the following organizations; the Harlem Heights Historical Society, the American Association for State and Local History, the Association of Public Historians of New York State and the Organization of American Historians.

Mr. Renner is also an accomplished author of articles that represent a historical nature and are a written interpretation that correspond to his photographic collection which combines historic and contemporary subjects pertaining to Washington Heights, Inwood and Marble Hill. These have appeared in community newspapers such as; The Washington Heights Citizen and the Inwood News, The Manhattan Heights Forum, the Washington Heights and Inwood Report and the Manhattan Times.
