EDGEWATER ARTS COUNCIL SPONSORS WINE TASTING
EVENT AS FUND RAISER FOR MORE OUTDOOR SCULPTURE

The Edgewater Arts Council will sponsor an evening of wine and food tasting on Thursday, April 20, from 7 to 9 PM, at Edgewater Wine & Spirits; it was announced by Neda Rose, founder and president of the 15 year old Arts Council.

The event is a fund raiser for the non-profit cultural organization’s Sculpture Project. Tickets are $20.00 each or two for $30.00, and can be purchased at the door. Checks should be made payable to Edgewater Arts Council.

So far, three pieces of outdoor art have been purchased by the Arts Council, gifted to the borough and sited in public locations. The Sculpture Committee is seeking a fourth.

“We hope to make standard on-loan arrangements with artists, which would create a revolving display of sculpture in Edgewater. But we would have to pay the cost of transportation and that is considerable,” Rose said.

The first event scheduled to raise necessary funds is the evening of fine wine and good food – with music performed by Arts Council member Larry Lipshutz. The wine tasting evening was organized by fund raising co-chairs Gio LoMorro Serranti.and Doreen Danue, who will help host the event. Serranti, a gourmet cook, teacher and lecturer, will prepare and provide wine-friendly food for the tasting event. Proprietors of the newly opened Edgewater Wine & Spirits will have cheese and fruit in the lounge, on the bar and at tasting tables throughout the establishment. During the evening, vintners will present a large selection of mixed wines and discuss their virtues with guests.

The Edgewater Arts Council, now in its 15th year, is a 50l (C) 3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization of volunteers. Their biggest event is an annual Arts & Music Festival that has evolved to include a juried show and generous prize money. They created an art gallery at the borough’s community center, sponsor classical and jazz concerts, art auctions, art talks and a Wearable Arts Show. The Council also gave the borough framed prints of paintings depicting local scenes and last October sited sculptures in Shadyside, Memorial Park and a pocket park on the Hudson River Walkway, across the street from Borough Hall.

“Our vision of our town is to plant sculptures as we would plant trees, so they become part of the landscape,” said Neda Rose. The Wine Tasting fund raiser will help her organization attain this goal.

Edgewater Wine & Spirits is located at 824 River Road, just south of the fire station. There is valet parking. For more information, call Gaby or Ida at 201 840 0777.
