Vinil, when I set out to purchase my current coop apartment I used the online multiple listing service, newspaper advertisements, and a couple of real estate agents to look at as many apartments in as many buildings as I could. I spoke with friends in the area regarding real estate price direction/momentum and quality of life issues. I would also try to speak with residents, doormen, and other employees of the buildings where I was looking to get a feel for the way things were run. To obtain a copy of the financials for any coops I would ask the real estate agent to provide these. The agents will also provide you with some representative pricing for sale prices over the last few years. They are eager to give you this as prices have been increasing and their mantra seems to be that prices can only go up and never come down.
As far as Briarcliff and Summit House are concerned, I can not comment on these buildings. I looked at an apartment in Summit House two years ago but I did not buy it. However, my decision had nothing to do with the building but with the apartment itself.
