Mcmansion:
You comment that there are no Korean gangs in Fort Lee. How do you know? Are you privy to Fort Lee police data? If you mean that there are no roving bands of Koreans mugging people, that's true. However, it is my understanding that Fort Lee High School (and even the middle school) certainly has Korean cliques that have elements of intimidation about them. I'd be interested in any comments from readers with first hand knowledge of what the situation is in the school.
I don't mean to imply that this is West Side Story or anything, but the reality of the town is that an increasing "minority" population (whether Asian or other ethnic group) discourages whites from moving in once it reaches a tipping point. And in Fort Lee that tipping point was reached a few years ago. The evidence is everywhere.. in the store signs on Main Street, in the schools, in the Korean monument on Abbott Boulevard, in the Sunday newspaper ads for real estate by Asian brokers. The high rises are still attractive to Caucasian singles and childless couples, but as far as homebuyers with kids, Fort Lee is not considered seriously anymore by most non Asians.
I would be interested to know the demographic makeup of home buyers in Fort Lee last year. I wonder if this is available from the boro records?
