I always have a hard time figuring out these kinds of stats. I work hard, and my income exceeds the median family of Tenafly. And yet, I'd be really hard pressed to imagine how I'd afford one of these million-dollar plus houses. Aren't the guidelines for affordability of a mortgage something like 3x your annual? Are people really saving up 500K plus first, and mortgaging 300K to buy a house in Tenafly? I have three kids (I think most "families" are two kids), but that shouldn't make that much of a difference, should it? What am I doing so incorrectly?
