Mike,
As a Councilman in Fort Lee & one involved in many events in town I can tell you that Korean-American kids, as well as Russian-American, Italian-American, Irish-American, etc exemplify one thing - true Americanism. These children signed petitions and fought to save the Barrymore House from destruction in Coytesville. Those opposed to saving this house were mainly old-timers from Fort Lee. Also, during the recent 225th Anniversary of Washington's Retreat to Victory throughout Bergen County, many children whose families came from Korea dressed up as members of Washington's Army & completed reports on this historic event. These reports now are on display in the Fort Lee Museum adjacent to Monument Park. A Korean-American Fort Lee High School student is secretary on the Fort Lee Historic Committee and puts in countless hours fighting to save and promote the heritage of our Borough. I invite you to our museum and to the many events run by the Fort Lee Film Commission, the Fort Lee Historical Society & the Fort Lee Historic Committee to witness how a diverse population does not create a ghetto but creates a beautiful mosaic that promotes AMERICAN history and a common heritage - a heritage which is an idea that of Democracy. Our next event is on Wednesday, February 27th @ 8pm in the Fort Lee Library - A Salute To African-American film Pioneer Oscar Micheaux (who shot many of his films in Fort Lee from 1920 to 1948). Come out and be a participant in Fort Lee's heritage.
Tom Meyers - Coytesville
