Whom ever u spoke to and you, are not aware as to what a ghetto is. A ghetto is a large concentration of one ethnic minority in one area.
As far as allowing your wife to walk alone, does she walk behind u as well?
You cannot love Fort Lee, if you do not know Coytesville and just drive through like a tourist.
Try riding your bike through Linwood Park, in the summer time, during the day, you will see it is more refreshing to do so than to inhale the pollution on Palisade Ave.
