Heritage Day Parade
Fort Lee, in the shadow of the George Washington Bridge, is,
as it is called, the gateway to New Jersey. As brilliant a structure
and as unique a bridge as it is, it is a secondary claim to our
heritage here in Fort Lee.
Our fundamental uniqueness is our relationship to the Revolutionary
War. Skirmishes from Northvale downward cannot compare to our
role as the fort that George Washington established while his
troops were held up in what was then called Fort Constitution.
The remembrance of our town as a cog in the wheel of our nations
history and the defiant act of freedom for its new settlers will
be acted out on Sunday, September 24,
in the form of our Heritage Day Parade. The photographs
on this page, taken from the Parade of 9/12/98, represent the
display of our towns people, both marching and watching
in delight.
